Definition
An internet service provider (ISP) is the company that connects you to the internet: a cable or fibre provider at home, a mobile carrier on your phone, or a corporate network at work. Your public IP comes from the address space your ISP controls.
Connection types
IP intelligence tools classify networks into broad categories: residential (home broadband), mobile (cellular carriers), hosting or datacenter (cloud and server providers), business, education and government.
These labels are inferences. A single company may run home, business and hosting services from related address blocks, which is why this site shows a certainty level (Known, Likely, Inferred, Unavailable) next to each classification rather than presenting it as fact.
